Sustainability

At our core, we believe in a collaborative approach to enabling a circular economy and net-zero future. By integrating our technology with strategic partners, we achieve direct CO2 mineralization, emissions abatement and the diversion of industrial byproducts from landfills. With a shared vision for a sustainable future, we are committed to becoming the leading carbon tech company in the transition to a low-carbon, waste-free world.

Our History

Our journey began in 2014 when we were faced with the challenge: can carbon emissions be transformed into valuable products? Our founder, Apoorv Sinha was motivated by this idea. He delved into research papers, conducted experiments, and gathered promising data that resulted in the development of our core carbon utilization technology.

We started by building a lab-scale prototype that was no larger than a cookie jar. Soon we were seeing results that demonstrated  we were onto something that could have an outsized impact on industrial decarbonization. In 2016, Carbon Upcycling was accepted into the NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE, a competition focused on scaling carbon tech. As a lean but mighty team of 10, we successfully constructed and operated a reactor that processed 20 tonnes of SCM per batch, a staggering 10 million times larger than the original prototype Apoorv built.

Following the XPRIZE, we shifted our focus toward commercializing our technology. We gained traction with world-leading cement and concrete companies who we are actively engaging with to develop pipelines of projects to deploy around the world.

In 2021, we secured a SEED round of US$6M and grew our team to 15 people. In 2023, we secured a Series A round of US$26M and our team is now larger than 30 people.
