Project Overview

Carbon Upcycling in partnership with BURNCO Rock Products, a 4th generation family-owned aggregate construction materials company, and Lafarge Canada, a global cement producer and construction materials company, are deploying Carbon Upcycling technology in Alberta.

Our technology will produce a high-performance cementitious material from landfilled coal fly ash and permanently sequester CO2 emissions from a natural gas power plant. The low-carbon material will be used to reduce the embodied carbon of cement and concrete.

The first phase of the project with BURNCO will deploy a pilot-scale demonstration unit to prove the technology and validate the performance of the upcycled ash.

The second phase of the project will deploy an industrial-scale facility in partnership with Lafarge.

This project received CA$4.4 million in grant funding from Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA).
